Post by SarahW on Fri Oct 31, 2008 3:19 pm

The NAS 2008 Annual Conference will be held on Saturday 8th November at the Historic Dockyard (Portsmouth UK).

The event will feature a range of presentations from both professional and amateur maritime archaeologists, providing a unique opportunity to discuss research, review the archaeological activities of members, exchange ideas on managing our maritime heritage, and network with friends and colleagues from both the UK and abroad.

Robert Yorke, NAS Vice President and President Joint Nautical Archaeology Policy Committee, will be our MC for the day which will include a fabulous line-up of speakers:

Mark Beattie-Edwards (NAS)
Nigel Nayling (University Wales Lampeter)
Sarah Ward (NAS)
Matthew Harpster (Eastern Mediterranean University Cyprus)
Irena Radic Rossi (Croatian Conservation Institute)
David Blackman (University of Oxford)
Rebecca Stalker (Camden Young Archaeologists)
Gordon LePard (Dorset County Council)
Philip Robertson (Historic Scotland)
Mark Holley (Michigan College, USA)
Mike Williams (NAS/University of Wolverhampton)

Tickets start from £20.

The Conference Dinner Dance will be held in the Royal Maritime Club, ‘Shep Woolley and the Ansome Cabin Buoys’ will be singing sea shanties. This is an event not to be missed!

This exciting international event will also incorporate a ‘Beer and Skittles’ evening, a maritime trade display, poster exhibition, the 6th Annual Adopt-A-Wreck Award, and the 2008 NAS Annual General Meeting. Sunday will see us recording anchors in the Historic Dockyard as part of the global ‘Big Anchor Project’.
